Children in Ukraine are still living with fear, loss, and the trauma of war image

The war in Ukraine is as devastating as it has ever been. Missiles and drones are still falling. Children are still being pulled out of harm’s way, separated from the homes, routines, and people that once made them feel safe.

Since the war began, NHFC has helped to evacuate and care for more than 5,000 children from orphanages and boarding schools in some of the most dangerous areas of Ukraine. Many have been reunited with extended family members and babies and toddlers have been placed in individual foster homes. But other orphaned and vulnerable children, especially those with special needs, have remained in institutional care, still waiting for the safety and belonging of a family.

Ivan is one of those children.

Ivan is 8 years old. He has lost his mother, his father, and his grandparents. Half of his life has now been spent in an orphanage.

Because you and others cared enough to help, in just a few days Ivan will leave the orphanage and walk through the door of a loving, trauma-informed family waiting for him.

There will be a bedroom for him. A place at the dinner table. Adults who know his name and will be there for him when life is hard.

For a little boy who has experienced so much loss, having a family means everything. And after Ivan arrives, there will be just one place left in this home for another child.

But more children are waiting.

I hope you will help us make the next Hope House possible, a home where up to 10 more children can leave institutional care and become part of a family with trauma-informed foster parents.

Together, we need to raise $300,000 to prepare, establish, and support the next Hope House.

And right now, your gift can go twice as far.

Every gift received between now and December 31 will be matched dollar for dollar, up to $100,000. Your gift of $50 becomes $100. Your gift of $250 becomes $500. That means your gift can do twice as much to help us prepare the next safe, loving home.

Would you make a year-end gift today and help another child leave institutional care for the safety, stability, and love of a family?
